A bright red apple glinted in the light of the supermarket. Haylie smiled at it, as if it was something beautiful or interesting. She like the strangest things. Her golden hair fell from behind her ears as she held the apple up to her lips and kissed it. She looked causiosly around afterward, for acts of love such as this, were not anything she deemed suitable for public observation.
Her mother was browsing the pear section, examining each with the eye of a seasoned expert. The woman really knew nothing about fruit, but it was her desire to seem like an expert at something.
Daring to leave her mothers side, Haylie walked briskly into another isle, seemingly disappearing from her mothers view. (That's implying that her mother was paying her daughter enough attention to even notice that the girl had gone!)
One should not assume that Haylie was any younger than seventeen. She wasn't. It was her birthday lasy week. She had celebrated with her mother over some donoughts, and stale milk that smelt really wrong.
She did not begrudge her mother for giving her a poor life. After all, Haylie hadn't gotten a job, or helped out her mother financially yet. What right had she to blame the woman for not being the best at paying the bills? Besides, Haylie loved her. So she let it go, and pretended that she really didn't have it so bad.
As she smelt the cans of tomato sause, she laughed to herself. Her father used to smell cans when she was younger, insisting he could tell if it was good or not through the metal. He told her once that the moon was really an alien spacecraft watching and studying everybody down on Earth. Haylie had believed that too.
She had been so cought up in the memory of her father, she was completely oblivious of the boy standing right next to her. He too was smelling the tomato can. He was also grinning at her like she was a model in her underwear.
"What do you think of this one?" he asked her, shoving his can into her face. Haylie instinctively shot her head back. She also dropped her can of tomato sauce right ontop of his foot. He didn't seem to notice though, and in turn, thrust his can in her face anew.
"Get away from me!" she shrieked, giving him one glare of hatred. But it was during that glare, those quick seconds when her green eyes were ablaze with anger at being disrespected, that she actually looked at him. He was very attractive. This should not have mattered to Haylie, but it did. His eyes were slightly covered by the bangs of his short brown hair, but she could still distinguish that they were a disarming blue. His smile was as adorable. What could Haylie do? She had fallen in love.
"I really want to know what you think about this one," he demanded, truely jesting with her.
Haylie smiled sheepishly at him. She then took the can of pasty tomatoes, pressed it to her lips, just below her nose, and took a deep breath. She then took it away from her face and handed it back to the boy. "It smells like a keeper," she joke back.
He smiled longingly at her. Then he muttered a 'thanks' at her. He did not move from her side. Haylie did not move from his.
"I'm Jake. What's your name?" he asked her in a quiet voice. Haylie whispered her name to him, and he smiled. Then he said her name aloud, as if saying it made her more...his.
"This is so strange," offered Haylie, a bit ashamed at herself for being so taken by him based soley on his looks, and the fact that he was paying her the smallest favor of attention.
"I don't think its' strange at all!" replied Jake. "I eat food. You eat food. People buy food at the supermarket. They bump into each other in the search for nice smelling tomatoes," he said, trying to make her laugh. It worked like a charm.
"Yeah, true. But I meant...us talking and all. Plus, I never allow my sniffing abilities to be used for any other purpose than my own wants. Who knows what would happen if someone started asking me how I got such an amazing ability? Then everyone would know about me, and I'd have to live in seclusion for the rest of my life!" she ranted playfully. She really wanted to impress him with her on-the-spot story telling ability.
"That's true. Don't worry though, your secret's safe with me," he said, grinning.
"Thank you," she whispered to him seriously.
Jake stopped grinning at her then. Leaning foreward, and with one of his hand cupping the side of Haylie's face, he kissed her gently on the lips. She did not resist. Instead, she allowed it to happen, and even assisted in the kissing. It was her first kiss, believe it or not, and she wanted it to be a good one. So what if it was in an isle in the supermarket with a boy she didn't even know? She wanted to be with him so badly then. She yearned to be loved by him.
When the kiss was done, everything in the room seemed brighter somehow. It was as if the darkness their two faces made when met, effected the entire world in that moment. Nothing looked the same as before. Not even Haylie's mother looked the same, because now she had a very upset expression on her face. It was clear to Haylie just how much of a slut she looked like right then. Even a random woman made terrible expressions at her and Jake. The woman said very mean things about Haylie too, and Jake ended up defending her. His hand, she noticed, was entwinded with hers as he turned around to confront the woman on her behalf.
Things calmed down when the evil troll woman left the isle. Even Haylie's mother had moved on. She was now roaming the froazed food section and wondering what she had done wrong when raising her daughter. After all, the girl was obviously rebelling against her!
"I better go after my mother," Haylie said sadly.
Jake looked at her in shock and muttered stupidly, "That was your mother?"
Haylie laughed and told him that the evil troll woman was not her mother. "She's around here someplace, convinced I kissed you as a form of rebellion," she said with a half somile on her face.
"How do you know?" he asked, smiling back.
"Because she's accused me of doing so millions of times, when in reality, my passions have nothing to do with her," Haylie stated.
Jake frowned. "How many passed passions have there been?" he aksed, seeming sad.
"Not those kind of passions!" Haylie exclaimed, throwing her free hand around Jakes neck. Again they kissed. Again the world was reduced to nothing but the darkness made by the closeness of their faces. His lips were more sweet than she had remembered.
This time when they seperated, Jake took his hand with him. "I have to go. I promised my sister I'd get him sause for dinner tonight," he said to Haylie's dismay. Then he reached in his pocked and pulled out a single dollar bill. He asked if she had a pen in her purse, and she said yes. She handed it to him, and he scribbled his number on the dollar. "Call me the second you get home," he demanded of her. She nodded, taking the bill. Then he turned around to leave her.
"Will you leave me so unsatisfied?" Haylie called after him. He turned back to her and they gave her a goodbye kiss. After their lips met for the third time, Haylie knew she would have to get home the second he left her side.
"This isn't goodbye," he breathed.
"Never," she breathed back, both faces so close their noses rubbed against each other.
"Never," he responed, and then left her sight.
(end of part 1 my dearies!)

Whoa.
Really, really rushed. I felt like I was shoved on a roller-coaster I didn't like and forced to ride the whole way.
I mean, you can hardly tell who is who, and the dialogue seem really flat. The whole 'love at first sight thing' didn't really work out, and I kind of pictured the two main characters as little cardboard drawings saying cliches.
Just try to slow down the base, you'll get better!
